We are a family of four who love to experience new adventures in new places.  For years people have asked us how we plan our trips and asked for recommendations on creating their own, so we created this blog to share our past itineraries as well as what we’ve learned and what has worked for us over the years. That’s where centuries-old cellars like Cálem, Graham’s, and Sandeman keep their barrels of ruby, tawny, and white Port aging to perfection. 🌿🍇 Tim and I enjoyed a Port wine tasting at Calem Caves while we were in Porto - and even brought a bottle home. If you’ve never had Port, it’s a sweet, full-bodied wine that can be red, white or rose. The flavor and style of Port varies depending on the type of grape used and how long it has been aged. Did you get your brick today? In honor of Lego’s Did you get your brick today? In honor of Lego’s 90th birthday, Lego stores gave out free building kits today. We were literally one of the first to arrive at our local store. Didn’t get one? You can still get one tomorrow. Check your local Lego store. No purchase necessary, but we’ve never managed to go and not buy something!
If you’re in Billund to visit the Lego House and If you’re in Billund to visit the Lego House and Legoland I highly recommend taking a short drive to Brande, Denmark. This small town is filled with street art and it has some great restaurants right on the plaza in the middle of town. We loved seeing the enormous murals on tall buildings throughout town as well as the smaller pieces. There was a huge variety to enjoy. Where is your favorite places to see street art?
Did you know that the biggest Lego store in the wh Did you know that the biggest Lego store in the whole world is located in Billund? Its right inside the gates at Legoland and it has EVERYTHING! There was a huge pick a brick area, where you can choose the bricks you want to buy, an area to make your own minifigures, hard to find Lego sets, exclusive Lego sets and every other set you’ve ever seen.   🛍 Pro Tip: Go early and make your selections while the store is quiet… and enjoy the air conditioning! In the afternoon the store gets really busy as everyone searches for a souvenir to take home with them, but it’s empty in the morning and mid-day. You can even make your purchases and they’ll hold them until you’re ready to leave the park.   Follow us for more family travel tips!
Where else can you take a boat ride from the Sydne Where else can you take a boat ride from the Sydney Opera House to the Taj Mahal, the on to the Acropolis, the Colosseum, the Statue of Liberty and the US Capitol Building? Legoland Billund! And they are all made out of Legos. How amazing is that?   Did you know, there are 10 Legoland theme parks around the world. Have you ever been?
This summer we had the opportunity to visit Legola This summer we had the opportunity to visit Legoland Billund, the original Legoland Theme Park located in Billund, Demark – the home of Legos. It was an amazing day that was a combination of thrill rides and Lego museum with a little Lego building along the way.   One of our favorite areas in the park was the Lego Movie area. When the park opened, we quickly walked back to this area and had it all to ourselves! The Lego builds and decorations in this area truly made us feel like we were stepping into the Lego Movie. The Lego House is made up of 4 creativity zones. I The Lego House is made up of 4 creativity zones. In each zone there are a number of different activities, including specific builds. In the yellow zone, we were tasked with creating Lego bees. We immediately sat down at a long table covered with black, yellow and white bricks of varying shapes and sizes. It was then that I realized that it had never before occurred to me to build a bee out of Legos… but I was determined to make one. When we finished, we brought our bees over to a table filled with Lego flowers and added our bees to pollinate them. For fans of Legos, the Lego House’s lower level For fans of Legos, the Lego House’s lower level offers a nostalgic look back on a favorite childhood toy. There is a room dedicated to past favorites from the 1930s until today. We loved walking through and remembering the sets we played with as kids and the boys loved seeing how things have changed. There’s also a digital catalog of every single Lego set ever created. Did you play with Legos as a kid? What was your favorite set?
One of the coolest things about the Lego House was One of the coolest things about the Lego House was the technology that they have made available. You receive a wristband when you enter that allows you to interact with some of your Lego builds and save everything you do to your digital memories that you can download when you get home. One of my favorites was the aquarium. After building your fish, you could put a digital face on it and then release it into the aquarium to swim with the rest of the fish created that day.
