We’ve spent a lot of time at ski resorts in the winter, but rarely visit them in the summer. Last week we had a chance to spend the day at Snowbird Mountain and it was a blast! Here’s everything you need to know about Summer at Snowbird Mountain.
Snowbird is located just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. It offers a variety of summer activities for all ages, but unlike some of its neighbors, it offers an All-Day Activity Pass that give you the change to do everything on the mountain for one low price. This was a huge perk for us because if one attraction had a line, we could easily switch to a different one. As a result, we rarely waited for more than a few minutes.
Pass pricing is dependent on the day of the week and they also offer a twilight pass for anyone coming later in the day. Because some attractions are only offered for people who are taller than 42”, they also offer a discounted pass for smaller visitors.
We got there as soon as it opened and easily spent 6 hours running from activity to activity and enjoyed every single one! The boys’ favorite was the Mountain Coaster. You strap in to a coaster and are quickly pulled up a ramp, just like a roller coaster. The coasters are built for two, but anyone over 54” can also ride alone. Once you get to the top, you wind through the woods and then wind down the mountain as fast as you want. I think the boys rode it a dozen times!
We had a great time racing down the Alpine Slide too! You ride the chairlift up to the top to pick up your sled and race down one of two tracks to the bottom. Each driver controls their own speed as you wind down the mountain and under bridges to the base. We were the first people to ride down and we rode several times. Unfortunately, later in the day when we returned the line was pretty long because it was taking awhile for the sleds to make it back to the top (they ride the lift too) and they were clearly short on sleds. We were really glad we hit this one first.
Also at the top of the lift is the Woodward WreckTangle – a ninja style obstacle course that ends with a zipline. The boys had a blast finding their inner American Ninja Warrior and tackling each obstacle as they worked their way through. Flying off the zipline at the end was the perfect finish! There is also a tubing area at the top of the lift. It was much smaller than we imagined, and the boys opted to skip this for the other, more exciting, activities.
At the base of the mountain there is a ropes course and tree climb. The boys had so much fun winding around the ropes course across each of the different types of pathways. They let groups of about 8 go up together and the boys had plenty of time to do everything before the staff called them down to send the next group up.
The boys climbed the rock wall and had fun climbing up Spider Mountain and sliding back down. They also tried the Bungee Trampoline, but it wasn’t their favorite. There were other kids there doing flips and tricks that looked pretty amazing! There was a Mini Ropes Course for children under 6 and a Mini Tree Climb too, so the little kids didn’t feel left out.
Mid-day we took the Aerial Tram up to the Summit. The views on the way up and down are amazing. It was about 45-degrees at the top! A huge difference from the base of the mountain. Thankfully we had brought our sweatshirts! There is a restaurant in the lodge where you can get lunch or snacks. We had brought lunch, so we enjoyed it outside at one of many picnic tables while we took in the view. Snowbird Mountain backs up to Alta Mountain and there are dozens of hiking and biking trails up at the top for visitors to enjoy. After lunch we hiked for a little bit and took in the view before heading back down to the adventure below. The tram runs every 15-minutes, so it was a quick trip back down.
What is your favorite summer alpine activity?
