Top Tips for Visiting Legoland Billund

Visit Legoland Billund

Roller coasters, boat rides and Legos. What could be a better combination? Legoland Billund is the perfect place to spend a day if your children love Legos! Here are answers to your questions about how to plan a great trip to Legoland Billund.

What is it?

Legoland Billund is the original Legoland, which was built in the town where the first Legos were created. It’s part amusement park, part Lego museum and a ton of fun for families.

How do you get there?

Legoland is located right in downtown Billund. You can fly directly into Billund from many European cities and you can actually walk from the airport right to Legoland! If you fly into Copenhagen, it’s about a 3 hour drive. You could also take a train from Copenhagen. There are several parking lots right at Legoland and you can pre-purchase your parking pass when you purchase your tickets.

Where Should I Stay?

Legoland has several hotels and camping options right on site, but there are also a few other hotels in Billund and lots of vacation rentals in the surrounding area.

How Do I Buy Tickets?

If you are staying at Legoland, you can purchase your park tickets as a package with your lodging. If you are not staying on site, you can purchase tickets in advance online for the day you wish to visit. They also sell tickets at the gate, but we were happy that we had already purchased them because there was a long line at the ticket window when we arrived. When you purchase your tickets online you can also add parking and dining passes for an extra fee.

At the time that we went they were not offering a discount on admission if you stayed on site. Occasionally, Legoland offers discount tickets on cereal boxes or cookies in Danish stores, so it’s worth a look if you have time to visit a grocery store before you go.

Do I Need Krone to Pay for Things?

No. Legoland accepts Euros, but if you need change they will give it to you in Danish Krone. They also accept credit cards and you can pay in Krone or Euro on your card.

How Long Do I Need?

We spent one very long day at Legoland Billund and did it all. If you have younger children, you may like to have two days to allow time to rest each afternoon. The hours vary depending on the season and day of the week, so be sure to check that in advance.

What Can We Do There?

Legoland Billund is divided into a number of different sections, including one for pirates, Ninjago, arctic, Lego Movie, wild west and others. Each section has a number of rides, restaurants and shops within it. There is also a huge area reserved for Miniland – a number of European towns made out of Legos – a Lego safari, and so much more. Throughout the park there are also giant Lego builds and in many places you can build with Legos while you wait in line for your next ride.

Any Tips for Making the Most of My Day?

Try to arrive early before the crowds and head either to your favorite ride or to the back of the park. We arrived before the opened and were worried that so many people were waiting for the gates to open, but once they did, we went right back to the Lego Movie area and the arctic area and we were practically the only ones back there for an hour. We rode everything with little to no wait and then moved forward to some of the other areas.

Can I Bring A Bag or Stroller?

Yes. You can absolutely bring in bags and strollers. There are lockers available for a fee right at the entrance.

Can I Bring In Food?

Yes! There are many restaurants in Legoland, but we hate to waste time waiting in line, so we were excited to learn that you could bring in your own food. There are a number of different areas set up with picnic tables so that you can have lunch and some of them are even shaded! We brought our lunch in and were happy to sit at one of the picnic tables in the Ninjago area for a quick lunch between rides.

Are There Special Souvenirs Available?

I’ll be honest, we don’t often purchase souvenirs on our trips, but when you are at the Lego House you have to be willing to make exceptions! The Lego store at Legoland Billund is the largest Lego store in the world! Each year there are a number of exclusive Legoland sets that are made that can only be purchased here. But they also have a huge section of hard to find Lego sets, an area to make your own Mini, and pretty much every other set that’s being sold around the world.

There are also a number of smaller stores throughout the park that focus on specific types of Legos – like one in the Lego Movie section that has lots of sets from the movie and one in the wild west area that has a huge area to make your own Mini.

If you purchase Legos in the giant store, they will hold them for you until you’re done in the park. That’s a great idea because towards the end of the day the store gets very busy, so if you can break away from the rides to shop earlier in the day, you won’t have to wait in line… and you can enjoy some time in the air conditioning!
